My 6 major struggles when designing the corporate IP strategy were:

Who ever struggles with similar issues, here is my advice:
1. Start right into times of business change and transformation - just when the dust is about to settle.
2. Avoid getting stuck with fire-fighting in operative work, plan and commit yourself. stand firm.
3. Find IP companions to build cross-functional synergies, add relevance and power.
4. Be empathetic, involve, analyse needs and communicate in business language, not legalese.
5. Fly high. Start with an overarching umbrella strategy, then break down to lower level, e.g. BU-focussed or legally focussed patent filing strategy
6. Culture eats strategy for breakfast. Understand the company’s existing beliefs for an actionable strategy.
